We maintain a dedicated team of Safety Advisors highly experienced in the process industries. Some of the areas we regularly consult in include: SIL Assessment and HAZOP studies, COMAH, DSEAR, IPPC, and ISO14001. Related to machinery we get involved in: EU Machinery Directive, ATEX, LOLER, PUWER, PSR and specific advice on meeting requirements of the EN Standards .
NEBOSH certification in health and safety
RBPC encourage all our engineers to take up sponsored training leading to NEBOSH certification in health and safety. All of our process designs undergo and Hazard and Operability Study as a minimum requirement for review of safety aspects.
We believe that the idea of CE marking of entire steel building structures (made law in June 2014 under BS1090) can be logically extended to improve the safety of other integrated systems such as process plants and we are investigating this with a number of clients.
Introduction to the Energy Savings Opportunities Scheme (ESOS) Regulations 2015
The ESOS Regulations 2014 implement the EU Energy Efficiency Directive (2012/27/EU). The aim of this legislation is to address the ‘unprecedented challenges ersulting from increased dependence of energy imports and scarce energy resources, and the need to limit climate change and to overcome the economic crisis’. It regognises that ‘Energy efficiency is a valuable means to address these challenges’.
The regulations require that all ‘large’ undertakings in the UK carry out an ESOS Assessment and report compliance to the Environment Agency by 5th December 2015.
The outcome of the assessment is to ‘identify any way in which the organisation can improve its energy efficiency’ and to ‘identify the estimated costs and benefits of any energy saving opportunity’.
