Estimating is carried out by R B Plant both in the preparation of competitive tenders and the preparation of budgets for clients to present sanction applications to the required degrees of accuracy.

The estimating is led by the Project Engineer with input from the various discipline engineers involved. The preparation of budget costs is often carried out as part of a feasibility, front end or pre-project study. However, on occasions we are employed solely to prepare sanction application values against a set of conditions where the assumptions, exclusions, unknown and risk areas are all outlined.

Estimating involves the provision of man hour estimates as well as for construction costs.

The estimates are presented in the form of a summary sheet with a full set of breakdown sheets in support. The costs are presented on Microsoft Excel spreadsheets or on different formats to suit the client. Furthermore the philosophy adopted in the preparation of the estimate is also spelt out. The costings provide details of the field costs as well as on costs such as CDM, QS’s, Engineering, HAZOP’s, Spares, Commissioning and Validation, Contingencies (based on the design status, information provided and site conditions) and Escalation. The field costs are usually obtained from quotations against specifications whilst the on costs are obtained from the skills of the Project Engineers and the company’s in depth experience.

The experience available within our organisation as contractors and our relationship with suppliers and sub-contractors gives us a distinct advantage in the ability to prepare rapid and realistic estimates which can be taken forward with confidence by the client.
